🔬 Alibaba's AI detects stomach cancer better than radiologists LINK
  • Alibaba's new AI model, called Grape, detects gastric cancer by analyzing three-dimensional computed tomography images, a process different from current endoscopy methods.
  • The system is designed to find and segment areas of stomach cancer from CT scans, which could help spot the disease in its very early stages.
  • A paper in Nature Medicine reported the Grape model significantly outperformed human radiologists at identifying the disease during the tests described in the study.
👕 Google's new 'Doppl' app helps you virtually try on outfits LINK
  • Google is testing a new app called Doppl which makes AI-generated clips of you wearing outfits from a screenshot and your own full-body photo.
  • During use, the tool had trouble rendering pants, sometimes creating fake feet, and it also caused people in mirror selfies to look much thinner.
  • This system works with clothes from anywhere on the web and creates an animation, unlike the company's previous virtual try-on feature for search results.
🇪🇺 Apple announces sweeping App Store changes in the EU LINK
  • Developers can now promote offers on external websites and other apps, using multiple destination links with tracking parameters instead of a single static URL.
  • Apple is allowing users to permanently opt-out of the disclosure sheet that appears for outbound purchases after they have seen it just one time.
  • A new Core Technology Commission of 5% on sales replaces the per-install fee for creators on the company's standard EU business terms.
😢 Windows ends the Blue Screen after 40 years LINK
  • Microsoft is replacing its Blue Screen of Death after forty years with a simplified black background that removes the classic frowning face and QR code.
  • This new error page directly lists the stop code and faulty system driver, helping IT admins diagnose problems without analyzing separate crash dumps.
  • The change will arrive in a Windows 11 update this summer with a Quick Machine Recovery feature to improve the operating system's overall resiliency.
🤖 YouTube adds AI summaries to search results LINK
  • YouTube is testing an AI-generated results carousel for some searches, which shows relevant videos with an AI summary so you may not have to watch them.
  • This new AI search feature is currently an opt-in experiment available only to YouTube Premium subscribers, appearing at the top of the results page for some queries.
  • The carousel could reduce the number of users clicking to watch videos, which might make it harder for channels to grow and earn revenue from their content.
🤝 Uber in talks to fund Kalanick's self-driving car deal LINK
  • Uber is in early discussions with co-founder Travis Kalanick to help fund his acquisition of the US subsidiary of autonomous vehicle company Pony.ai.
  • Should the deal proceed, Travis Kalanick would lead Pony.ai while continuing his role as head of his virtual restaurant start-up, CloudKitchens.
  • It remains unclear if Uber would take an investment stake in Pony.ai, and the financial terms of the potential transaction have not been disclosed.
