🚨 Bybit hacked for almost $1.5 billion in biggest crypto theft ever LINK
  • A hacker stole approximately $1.5 billion in Ethereum and staked Ethereum from Bybit's offline wallet, marking the largest cryptocurrency heist in history.
  • Bybit CEO Ben Zhou confirmed that the hacker manipulated a planned transfer, gaining control of the exchange's cold wallet and directing its funds to an unknown address.
  • The theft accounted for about nine percent of Bybit's assets; however, the exchange has secured 80 percent of the required funding to cover the loss through partner bridge loans.
➡️ OpenAI to shift compute needs from Microsoft to SoftBank LINK
  • OpenAI plans a significant transition by 2030 to obtain 75% of its computing capacity from Stargate, a project largely funded by SoftBank, reducing its reliance on Microsoft.
  • Despite the anticipated shift, OpenAI intends to increase its investment in data centers owned by Microsoft in the upcoming years.
  • OpenAI's expenses are expected to rise sharply, with a projected cash burn of $20 billion in 2027, and by 2030, costs for running AI models will surpass training expenses.
🔮 Apple Intelligence is coming to the Vision Pro LINK
  • Apple Intelligence is being integrated into the Vision Pro, featuring a new Create Memory Movie function that allows users to generate personalized memory experiences within the Photos app.
  • The Vision Pro will offer AI-powered writing tools and smart replies, enabling users to dictate emails or memos and automatically respond to messages, enhancing the writing experience without needing a physical keyboard.
  • These Apple Intelligence features will be introduced in the visionOS 2.4 update, available in developer beta now, and will initially support US English, with broader language support coming later.
🤖 Norway’s 1X launches a humanoid robot for the home LINK
  • Norwegian robotics company 1X introduced Neo Gamma, a new prototype humanoid robot designed for home use, which follows the earlier Neo Beta model launched in August.
  • Neo Gamma features a friendlier design with a knitted nylon suit to minimize injuries, and it includes advanced AI systems to enhance safety and awareness in its operational environment.
  • Despite the unveiling, 1X emphasizes that Neo Gamma is still in the testing phase, with no immediate plans for commercial release, as the home robotics market remains challenging due to cost, safety, and technology limitations.
🚫 OpenAI bans accounts used to develop Chinese surveillance tools targeting the West LINK
  • OpenAI has banned several accounts linked to a Chinese surveillance tool that used ChatGPT to develop sales pitches and debug code for monitoring anti-China protests in Western countries.
  • According to Bloomberg, OpenAI's principal investigator, Ben Nuimmo, highlighted concerns about authoritarian regimes exploiting U.S.-developed technology to potentially undermine the U.S. and its allies.
  • The banned accounts also referenced other AI tools like Meta's Llama, and the suspected surveillance software, "Qianyue Overseas Public Opinion AI Assistant," was designed to track discussions on human rights in China across social media platforms.
